Pär Lernström is one of two who will be hosting TV4's European Championship studio this summer.

A context he has never been in before.

It's clear, it's a slightly different thing, says Lernström.

He has led numerous seasons of programmes such as "Idol", "Talang" and "Kockarnas kamp" on TV4.

But during the European Championship, Pär Lernström enters the world of sports, and makes his debut as a presenter in a football studio.

I've never been involved in a football broadcast. It's going to be incredibly fun to work with a championship, it's a rare opportunity, says Lernström.

"Man has only a few years left"

TV4 and SVT, as usual, share the championship broadcasts. TV4 has managed to secure the two most prestigious matches – the premiere and the final.

That Lernström became a candidate to, together with Frida Nordstrand, host TV4's studio broadcasts may come as a small shock to people who are used to seeing the 43-year-old in completely different contexts. But the idea of doing it has existed for a long time.

We've talked about it for a while with people in sports and so on, that it would be fun to try it sometime. And then I felt when I got the question that it would be quite exciting to try it, says Lernström and continues:

You only have a few years left before you become an old dog who can't learn new tricks, so you might as well try something new while you have the energy. It's clear, it's a slightly different tempo and a slightly different audience in a way. I'm really looking forward to dipping my toes in this, which I've watched as a supporter so many times.

"Exciting to get a little nervous"

Pär Lernström has been in the industry for many years and has become quite comfortable in front of the camera.

When he now steps out of his "comfort zone", there's still something that shakes out a few nerves.

It's exciting to get a little nervous in that way, I think. It feels safe now, and it will hopefully do so on Friday when we're doing the first match as well, says Lernström.

"A big interest in my life"

Even though Lernström has never led any sports broadcasts before, he doesn't come from a football-free background. The 43-year-old reveals that he used to play and coach football, and even refereed.

I've had football by my side since I was 8-9 years old somewhere.

And it was somewhere there that the Djurgården heart started beating, and today Lernström is a frequent consumer of both Allsvenskan and the Premier League.

I usually sit at the Tele2 Arena when it's a home match and shout behind Bosse Andersson (sports director at Djurgården). Then I love, like everyone else, to follow the Premier League and Champions League. I think very highly of football, says Lernström.
