The French priest Abbé Pierre founded the Emmaus movement and dedicated his life to helping the homeless. Now he is accused by several women of sexual abuse that allegedly took place over 35 years.
The abuse, according to a report, was directed against employees and volunteers as well as young women in his "personal entourage", writes the Fondation Abbé Pierre and the Emmaus movement in a joint statement, reports the newspaper Dagen.
Seven women testify in the investigation by the organization Egaé that they were subjected to sexual harassment between 1970 and 2005. Additional women have shared similar information.
Abbé Pierre passed away in 2007.
