Trump is disappointed with the Russian President Vladimir Putin, he says on site in Scotland where he met the British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday.

The President says at a press conference that he is shortening the previous deadline of 50 days to reach an agreement on a ceasefire to 10-12 days - if Russia wants to avoid further sanctions from the US. The new deadline applies immediately.

There is no reason to wait. We do not see that any progress is being made, says Trump.

Does not want to talk to Putin

He also criticizes Putin for talking about getting an end to the war, but at the same time continuing to attack Ukrainian civilians.

I really thought it would end. But every time I think it's going to end, he (Putin) kills people.

On a question of whether he can imagine a potential meeting with the Russian leader, he says:

I am not so interested in talking anymore.

Zelenskyj thanks Trump

The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj praises Donald Trump's "clear stance and expressed determination".

"Just at the right time, when much can change through efforts for real peace. I thank President Trump for his focus on saving lives and getting an end to this terrible war", writes Zelenskyj on Telegram.

Trump has previously threatened Russia with 100 percent tariffs on Russian goods and also "secondary sanctions" for countries that buy goods from Russia if the country does not reach an agreement on peace with Ukraine within 50 days.

In Congress, a proposal for tariffs of 500 percent has been put forward, but leading Republicans have awaited Trump's support.
