Starmer met the American president at Trump's golf course Turnberry together with his wife Victoria on Monday, reports BBC.

The British prime minister describes the relationship between the USA and the UK as "unmatched". One of the main reasons for the meeting is the war between Israel and Hamas, he says.

We are very committed and I think it is one of the main reasons for our meeting, says Trump.

Will distribute food

The American president says that the USA will establish food distribution stations in Gaza to alleviate the increasingly severe hunger crisis.

We will establish food stations that people can go to – without any obstacles. We will not have fences, he says to journalists.

On a question of whether he agrees with the Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu's assessment that there is no famine in Gaza.

Not particularly since the children there look very hungry, he says with reference to TV images.

Difficult negotiations

Starmer interrupts Trump and says that it is about a humanitarian crisis.

It is an absolute disaster. I think that people in the UK are outraged over what they see on their screens, he says according to BBC.

Trump also says that it is "troublesome" to negotiate with Hamas because they have fewer Israeli hostages.

This makes it harder to reach an agreement with the terrorist group because they use them as "shields", and when they release the hostages they are no longer protected.
