The landslide occurred in a village near the city of Chengde in Hebei province, which surrounds the capital Beijing, reports the state television company CCTV.

Late on Monday evening local time, local authorities issued red warnings, which are the most serious, in 15 counties as further flooding is expected in the Luanhe and Beisanhe river systems. Beijing is also included in the red warnings for flooding and the second-highest warning for rain.

President Xi Jinping has urged local authorities to plan for the worst possible scenarios and to promptly relocate residents in flood-threatened areas. The bad weather is expected to continue until Tuesday morning local time.
