Peru's former president Alberto Fujimori has died of cancer, 86 years old, announces his daughter Keiko on X. He was pardoned in December last year from a long prison sentence for corruption and responsibility for 25 people's deaths during his presidency 1990-2000.
Mathematics professor Fujimori defeated the author and Nobel laureate Mario Vargas Llosa in the presidential election 1990.
He implemented major economic reforms, had support in the beginning but resigned after scandals in 2000.
