The President of the South African Football Association, Danny Jordaan, has been arrested and charged with fraud and theft.
According to the charges, he is alleged to have used the equivalent of almost 800,000 kronor of the association's funds for personal purposes.
Jordaan, who ensured that South Africa hosted the 2010 World Championship, denied the charges in a court in Johannesburg.
According to the charges, Jordaan allegedly hired a private security company and a PR agency for personal purposes between 2014 and 2018, without the approval of the South African Football Association's board.
The 73-year-old Jordaan has been the president of the association since 2013 and was re-elected for the third time in 2022.
Jordaan and two other accused were released on bail.
