Never before has a handball national team been as good as Denmark is right now on the men's side. At least if you believe Rasmus Lauges' description of his team.
This handball team is the best that has ever been seen, he says in Danish TV2, according to Ritzau.
And it's easy to believe his words. In what was to become a really tough World Championship final, where Croatia played tough to try to upset the big favorite Denmark, our neighboring country secured its fourth consecutive World Championship gold.
The tough game didn't pay off in the way the Croatians had hoped. Instead of getting a reward, the Danes were able to pull away a bit to 16–12 halfway into the final – and in the second half, they ran away even more.
Croatia had a tough time keeping up, at one point Denmark led by as much as ten goals, but the Croatians managed to tidy up the numbers a bit.
In the end, it was 32–26, and a historic fourth consecutive World Championship title for Denmark. Croatia was in its first World Championship final since 2009, and just like then, it was silver.
One topic of conversation before the final was the many Croatian supporters who were reported to have made their way to Oslo, despite lacking tickets to the match. According to the Croatian newspaper Sportske Novoste, it was speculated that up to 5,000 Croatians traveled to Norway's capital, reported among others by Norwegian NTB.
