It was on Friday evening local time that Honduras received Mexico in the first of two quarterfinal matches in the Nations League. But it was not the home team's upset victory that made the headlines – but a bloody Mexican national team captain.
It was when Javier Aguirre was about to thank Honduras' national team captain for the match that he was hit in the head by a thrown beer can.
In pictures, you can see how he shakes hands with his colleague with blood streaming down his face.
Concacaf (North and Central America and the Caribbean Football Federation) has announced that it will investigate the incident, which is condemned from both Mexican and Honduran sides. The main person himself, however, seems to take it all in stride.
There's no point in even mentioning it. It's football and I'm not one to complain, he says according to BBC.
