Confirmed: Olympic Champion Ståhl to the Final

The nervous wait led to something positive. Daniel Ståhl is clear for the Olympic Games final in Paris. This was much better than in Rome and throughout the whole year, says the star after 65.16 meters.

The 31-year-old seemed to enjoy extra much climbing out onto a packed Stade de France.

He danced and joked during the warm-up.

Then the star's show ended.

Daniel Ståhl only reached 65.16 meters and was sixth in his qualifying group, but in the end – after a nervous wait – he made it to the final on Wednesday.

To the final

The Swede's throw was enough to be among the twelve who advanced to the medal throw.

It felt good. It was pretty similar to Budapest last year, when I did 66.5 and now 65.16. It was a pretty calm throw. It wasn't "all out" and technically it was completely okay. It was magical in there, it was packed, awesome, he says.

Daniel Ståhl is in Paris as the reigning Olympic champion after the gold in Tokyo 2021.

He is also present as the fresh World Champion, when he in Budapest last year stood for a bravura finish in the final and surpassed Slovenian Kristjan Ceh with the competition's last throw.

Better technically

Despite a tough season with no throw over 70 meters, he says the feeling ahead of the final is the best he has had in a long time.

Can it loosen up?

Yes, I hope so, it feels good, he says.

What is it technically that feels better?

It was a bit longer movements than I've done this year, he says.

Then it was windless, packed, good pressure. It wasn't easy to throw in there.

Mykolas Alekna, Lithuania, was the best of all in the qualifying round and reached 67.47 meters.

Swedish OS silver medalist from Tokyo, Simon Pettersson, failed to qualify for Paris.
