Gerhardsson's Bold Lineup Changes for Sweden vs Germany Match

Peter Gerhardsson makes several changes in the Swedish starting eleven for this evening's group final against Germany. Among other things, he throws in both Magdalena Eriksson and Fridolina Rolfö from the start for the first time in this year's European Championship.

In total, Gerhardsson makes five changes compared to the Poland match.

At right-back, 18-year-old Hammarby talent Smilla Holmberg gets to make her first start in a major championship, she replaces Hanna Lundkvist.

Additionally, center-back Magdalena Eriksson, who has been injured at the start of the European Championship, enters the starting eleven for the first time in Switzerland. Eriksson has been troubled by an overload injury since the European Championship rehearsal against Norway two weeks ago, but has been training fully in recent days.

Proven concept

Fridolina Rolfö, who came on against Poland last time, also plays from the start. Rolfö suffered a foot injury in the Nations League match against Denmark on June 3 and has also been a question mark ahead of the championship.

It's not unusual for Gerhardsson to do exactly this in championships, changing the team in the last group stage match when Sweden has already secured advancement. In the same situation, he also replaced large parts of the starting eleven in the World Championship 2019, Olympic Games 2021 and World Championship 2023.

The other changes compared to last time are that Jonna Andersson (who started in the premiere against Denmark) enters as left-back instead of Amanda Nildén, and that Hanna Bennison replaces Julia Zigiotti Olme in central midfield.

Sweden wins the group with at least a draw in tonight's match at Letzigrundstadion in Zürich.

So the teams start

Sweden's starting eleven (4–3–3): Jennifer Falk – Smilla Holmberg, Nathalie Björn, Magdalena Eriksson, Jonna Andersson – Filippa Angeldahl, Kosovare Asllani, Hanna Bennison – Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, Stina Blackstenius, Fridolina Rolfö.

Germany's starting eleven (4–2–3–1): Ann-Katrin Berger – Carlotta Wamser, Janina Minge, Rebecca Knaak, Sarai Linder – Elisa Senss, Sjoeke Nüsken – Jule Brand, Laura Freigang, Klara Bühl – Lea Schüller.
