Already before the match between Poland and Denmark, it was clear that neither of the nations could advance to the quarterfinals. This since both countries had lost their matches against Sweden and Germany.
Thus, it was only honor at stake during the Saturday evening.
However, it seemed to motivate the Danish women to a limited extent during the start of the match. Already after 20 minutes, Poland, which is participating in its first European Championship, had scored two goals.
Denmark reduced the score a bit into the second half, only to see Poland's Martyna Wiankowska increase the score again to 3–1 with a nice shot via the crossbar with a quarter of the match left.
The match ultimately ended 3–2 in favor of Poland.
The loss also means that Denmark's Swedish national team coach Andrée Jeglertz will conclude his stint in Denmark with a grand fiasco. It became clear last week that the 53-year-old will become the new head coach for Manchester City's women's team in the English Super League after the European Championship.
