That the national team star Viktor Gyökeres wants to leave Portuguese Sporting is no secret.
The Swedish striker did not show up to Sporting's pre-season gathering and was also absent when the team traveled to a training camp in Algarve. This despite the fact that he still has a contract with the club until 2028 and no deal has yet been made.
Now Sporting is clearly marking against Gyökeres' absence.
Everything will be resolved when the transfer window closes, with hefty fines and an apology to the group, says Sporting's chairman Frederico Varandas according to A Bola.
Arsenal is reported to be most interested in the Swede and negotiations are said to have taken place during the week. But Sporting refuses to release Gyökeres below his market value and the chairman stands firm on his line.
If they do not want to pay Viktor's market value, we are very comfortable with that for the next three years, says Varandas.
He also directs criticism at Gyökeres' actions:
If the geniuses who design this strategy think that it puts pressure on me to facilitate a sale, they not only have it completely wrong, but also make the player's exit even more complicated. No one is above the club's interests. Regardless of who they are.
