Iga Swiatek Makes History with 6-0, 6-0 Wimbledon Final Win

6–0, 6-0. These were historic set scores when Iga Swiatek outclassed the American Amanda Anisimova in the Wimbledon final. It feels super surreal, says the Pole after her sixth Grand Slam title.

Most recently, a Grand Slam final in tennis ended 6–0, 6–0 when Steffi Graf defeated Natasja Zvereva in the French Championships in 1988.

No Wimbledon final has previously ended 6–0, 6–0 in modern times, during the so-called open era, since 1968. The last time it happened was during the amateur era when Dorothea Lambert Chambers defeated Dora Boothby in 1911.

World number twelve Amanda Anisimova had tears in her eyes after a historic loss in her first Grand Slam final and thanked the audience for the support on the center court on the grass outside London.

Thanked mom

It has been a few incredible weeks for me here. Even though I ran out of gas a bit today, you have all been there for me and lifted me. I wish I could have made a better performance, says Anisimova in the victory interview in Max.

The 23-year-old American also directed a thank you to her mother who had flown in and was in the audience.

My mom is the most selfless person I know. She has done everything for me to get here.

The match was over in 57 minutes. It was a few minutes from the Wimbledon record from 1983 when Martina Navratilova defeated Andrea Jaeger with 6–0, 6–3 in 54 minutes, according to The Athletic.

The Grand Slam title was the 24-year-old Swiatek's sixth in her career in as many finals after winning the French Championships four times and the US Open once.

Gets 38 million

For the victory, Swiatek gets the equivalent of just over 38.6 million kronor. Anisimova gets around 19.3 million for second place.

I have not even dreamed of this. It's like too far away. I feel like I'm already an experienced player after my previous Grand Slam titles, but I didn't expect this one, says Swiatek and referred to the Wimbledon trophy that she received from the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton.
