The 32-year-old man could quickly be apprehended and the London police write on X that they do not believe there are additional perpetrators.

The investigation is ongoing and we are trying to find out exactly what happened. At present, we do not believe that the perpetrator and the victims knew each other beforehand, says criminal chief Christina Jessah.

Jessah also said that the police are now working to investigate the perpetrator's motives and that at present, there is no indication that the attack is terror-related.

Initially, there was no information about the condition of the girl and the woman, except that they were taken to hospital. After a few hours, the London police announced that the girl is being treated in hospital but that her injuries are not life-threatening. The 34-year-old woman's injuries are reportedly less severe, according to BBC.

A man who works in a tea shop near Leicester Square told BBC that he heard a scream from the square and ran out of the shop.

I heard a scream and went out and saw a man with a knife. I jumped on him, grabbed his hand, pulled him down to the ground, and kicked the knife away, says the man.
