The plane, equipped with a medical system for transporting patients, crashed shortly after taking off from the airport on Sunday afternoon.
According to witnesses and video clips on social media, the plane caught fire in connection with the crash and a black smoke cloud was seen rising from the crash site.
It is not yet clear what caused the accident or how many people were on board the plane.
The airport in Southend will remain closed for the time being.
