The message came in connection with the American president's meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House.
I am disappointed with President Putin because I thought we would have reached an agreement two months ago, but it seems it cannot be implemented, says Trump.
According to a source within the White House, Trump refers to 100 percent tariffs on Russian goods as well as "secondary sanctions" for other countries that buy goods from Russia, writes Reuters. In Congress, a proposal for 500 percent tariffs has been put forward, but leading Republicans have awaited Trump's support.
Called: Long deadline
The EU's Foreign Minister Kaja Kallas welcomes Trump's tougher stance against Russia - but says the country has been given an overly generous deadline.
50 days is a very long time considering they kill innocent civilians every day, says Kallas.
Trump and Rutte also announce that Ukraine will receive what they describe as a comprehensive amount of weapons through an agreement between NATO and the USA. It's about "first-class weapons", says Trump.
The weapons will be sold to European countries that will then deliver them to Kyiv, according to the plan.
"Comprehensive equipment"
Mark Rutte says the arms deliveries will give a boost to the country's defense against Russia.
It means that Ukraine will get access to comprehensive military equipment, both for air defense, but also rockets and ammunition, says Rutte.
Germany, Finland, Canada, Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Denmark will be among the buyers of the weapons, according to the NATO chief, who emphasizes that it is important that it happens quickly.
Trump says it's about weapons and war materials, including the Patriot systems that Ukraine has previously been promised, worth several "billion dollars".
Already on Sunday, Trump confirmed that the USA is resuming deliveries of the Patriot air defense system, which Ukraine has long requested in the fight to defend its cities against Russia's increasingly escalated air attacks.
