Tuesday's trading on the New York Stock Exchange was characterized by a cheerful atmosphere ahead of the American inflation figures to be presented on Wednesday.
The broad S&P 500 index rose 1.7 percent, the Dow Jones industrial index went up 1.1 percent, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite index closed 2.4 percent plus.
Investors were pleased, among other things, by a report showing that producer prices in the USA in July rose slightly less than expected.
The technology sector performed strongly. For example, the semiconductor giant Nvidia and electric car manufacturer Tesla increased 6.5 and 5.2 percent, respectively, while Microsoft rose 1.8 percent.
The coffee chain Starbucks surged significantly after it became clear that Brian Niccol will become the new CEO. Niccol is thus leaving as CEO of the fast-food chain Chipotle. Starbucks soared 24.5 percent, while Chipotle fell 7.5 percent.
