At least 36 people have died and three have been critically injured in a bus accident where a passenger bus drove off the road and down into a deep ravine in northern India. 42 people were on board according to official reports.
The accident occurred in the Almora area in the state of Uttarakhand.
Rescue personnel have been sent to the site to search for passengers who may still be trapped in the bus.
According to early reports, the bus, which was in poor condition, skidded before plummeting down into the 60-meter deep ravine. Some passengers managed to get out or were thrown out during the accident and alerted authorities to the incident.
