Star glamour in the stands and star glamour on the floor in Paris.
American Simone Biles, 27, shone in the gymnastics qualifying round in front of celebrities like Lady Gaga and Tom Cruise – despite seemingly having a sore calf.
Simone Biles is back in the Olympic Games after withdrawing from several competitions during the Games in Tokyo three years ago due to mental health issues.
That she is one of the superstars of this year's Paris Olympic Games was evident in the stands at the Bercy Arena during the qualifying round. There, artists like Snoop Dogg, Ariana Grande, and Lady Gaga, who performed during Friday's spectacular opening ceremony, were seated. Also present were Hollywood stars like Tom Cruise and Greta Gerwig.
The American team and Biles qualified in group two out of five, but the USA got a total of 172.296 points and is clear for Tuesday's team final.
Biles seemed concerned about her sore calf, but not badly enough that she herself didn't get 59.566 points, and the 27-year-old is likely to be one of the gold favorites in the individual all-around final later during the Olympic Games.
The American took four Olympic gold medals in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. In Tokyo five years later, she broke off during the team final, but was back in the final on the beam, where Biles took Olympic bronze.
