The number of Russian soldiers killed and wounded has likely reached 500,000, according to the Ministry of Defence in London in its latest situation report on the war.

Only in May this year, an average of 1,200 Russian soldiers were killed and wounded every day, according to the department. This is the highest daily figure reported since the war began in 2022.

Russia continues to recruit new soldiers, writes the British on X.

Exact figures on Russian and Ukrainian soldiers killed and wounded have been notoriously difficult to verify during the war, not least because Russia and Ukraine often give vastly different numbers.
