Spain has almost defeated the wildfires that have swept over the country in the past month with four fatalities as a result, according to the country's authority for civil protection and disasters.
They are fewer, and the end is much closer, says Director-General Virginia Barcones to the state channel TVE.
The remaining fires are however "treacherous", and a final effort is needed to put an end to the "terrible situation", she adds.
Spanish firefighters with the help of colleagues from the EU have fought the fires that have ravaged 403,000 hectares of land, most of it in the past two weeks. The northern and western parts of the country have been the worst affected.
Seen from the area of the fire-ravaged areas, Spain is the hardest hit country in Europe.
