Argentina is withdrawing from the UN's climate conference COP29, which is being held this year in Baku, Azerbaijan, writes The Guardian. This is because Argentina's president has ordered the country's negotiators to withdraw from the meeting.
Argentina's leader, populist Javier Milei, has previously stated that the climate crisis is a "socialist lie". He threatened to withdraw from the Paris Agreement during the election campaign last year but has since backed down.
On Tuesday, Javier Milei spoke with the US's incoming president Donald Trump, after which Milei's spokesperson said that Trump told his Argentine counterpart that he was his "favorite president".
