The 22-year-old ski star has racked up impressive performances during the season and is second in the overall World Cup, but chooses to skip the team competition since it doesn't award any World Cup points.

There are no points with team sprint, that's why I'm skipping it. A bit to be on the safe side, he says to SVT.

Sweden is fielding two men's and two women's teams. Calle Halfvarsson and Oskar Svensson are competing together in one men's team, and Johan Häggström and Måns Skoglund in the other.

On the women's side, Johanna Hagström and Maja Dahlqvist make up one team, and Sofia Henriksson and Moa Lundgren the other.

The competition weekend continues on Saturday and Sunday with individual sprint in classical style and 10 kilometers in freestyle.
