As recently as a month ago, Glenn Solberg left his job as national team captain for Sweden's handball men prematurely.
Now, he will be one of around ten OLT coaches at Olympiatoppen, a role that roughly corresponds to what the Swedish Olympic Committee calls a sports manager.
"I have had dialogues with some clubs in Europe, but when I got this opportunity at Olympiatoppen, it felt right and very exciting", says the Norwegian in a statement.
The 52-year-old Solberg made 122 national team appearances as a player with Norway. During his years as Sweden's national team captain, the Blue-Yellow team won three medals: World Championship silver in 2021, European Championship gold in 2022, and European Championship bronze in 2024.
He is employed at the same time as Solveig Gulbrandsen, who has played 183 national team matches and was part of the team that won Olympic gold in football in Sydney 2000.
"They represent competence in different ways, with experience from team sports, which we want to strengthen. In the role of OLT coach, they will be Olympiatoppen's responsible contacts in the interaction with selected national teams", says Hanne Staff, leader for performance and development at Olympiatoppen.
