"I thought I would peg up this week, but I'm not ready. I did my best to prepare myself, with the knowledge that it was what my mom had wanted, but I'm still processing the loss of her", writes Woods in a post on social media.

Tiger Woods is hosting the tournament at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California, and had he come to play, it would have been the first regular PGA tour tournament in seven months for the 49-year-old injury-plagued golfer.

"I want to thank everyone who has gotten in touch. I hope to be on site at Torrey later in the week and I appreciate the fine support I've received after mom's passing", he writes in his post.
