Truls Möregårdh, who is ranked seventh in the world, got a good start against the 20th ranked Japanese Sora Matsushima.
The Swede won the first two sets with 11–9 and 11–8.
The third set became more exciting. The Japanese won four straight balls and took the lead with 4–1. The Swede came back and took the lead with 7–6. Then Matsushima took a timeout which resulted in him turning the game around and winning the set with 11–9.
It became a wake-up call for Möregårdh, who sharpened the game and could win the fourth set with 11–7 and thus the match with 3–1 in sets.
The quarterfinal will be played on Sunday morning Swedish time. Truls Möregårdh's opponent will be the South Korean An Jaen-hyun, who beat the Frenchman Felix Lebrun in his round of 16.
