The World Cup final must be played where it is fair, where it is appropriate, where there is no doubt: in Spain.
That is what Alberto Núñez Feijóo, leader of the conservative opposition party Partido Popular (PP), says.
Asked whether he would call for Spain to withdraw from the tournament if co-host Morocco is awarded the final, he replies:
Yes. The answer is yes.
The 2030 men's World Cup has already become a major political issue - barely four years before it is due to be held across six countries. The main hosts are Spain, Morocco and Portugal. Some matches will also be played in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay to mark the World Cup's 100th anniversary.
In September, Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Moroccan Football Federation, claimed that the 2030 final would be played in Morocco. However, FIFA has not confirmed where the final will be played.
Alberto Núñez Feijóo's comments come amid strained relations between Spain and Morocco. In late July, more than 70,000 migrants crossed the border from Morocco into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in a chaotic manner.
Alberto Núñez Feijóo accused Morocco of deliberately orchestrating what he called an “invasion” and has vowed to crack down on Morocco if he becomes Spain's prime minister.
