Lindsey Vonn faces ninth surgery as she weighs alpine skiing comeback

Lindsey Vonn hasn't given up on her alpine skiing comeback. “We'll see how it all feels,” the veteran star told The Athletic. But first, she's facing her ninth surgery of the year.

“I don't think there's ever going to be a day when I don't want to ski fast,” Vonn, 42, said in the interview.

She continued:

“I wish I could be out there. I want to get through this surgery, and then we'll see how it all feels and whether, physically and mentally, I feel like I want to keep skiing - or if I just want to ski for fun.”

Vonn crashed in February at the Olympics in Italy and broke her leg, requiring eight surgeries. At least one more surgery - to repair her cruciate ligament, which she injured a week before the Olympics - remains. The Athletic reports that it will be performed later in November.
