Mjällby Tops Allsvenskan After 3-1 Victory Over Malmö FF

Mjällby defeated Malmö FF with 3–1 and now takes hold of first place in Allsvenskan. We know that we are damn good, how far it takes us will be seen, says Mjällby's Viktor Gustafson in the HBO Max broadcast.

Herman Johansson gave Mjällby the lead in the 50th minute with a shot that was deflected via a defender and put Malmö's Robin Olsen in goal.

Eight minutes later it was time again when Mjällby's midfielder Elliot Stroud shot from the flank and Robin Olsen made a goalkeeper mistake and let the ball in between his legs.

Malmö started a push and reduced to 2–1 with a goal by Kenan Busuladzic in the 70th minute.

In the 80th minute, Malmö's Stefano Vecchia was substituted in after 16 months of injury absence. The midfielder became clear in front of goal and was very close to finding the net with his first ball touch.

Malmö did not get closer and in the 93rd minute, Mjällby punctuated the match when midfielder Viktor Gustafson utilized a defensive mistake and put the ball in goal.

Thus, the team secured three important points in the hunt for the gold medal.

It's probably the best feeling you can get in Allsvenskan, totally fantastic, says Viktor Gustafson and describes his goal:

I saw that they hesitated and went a bit on the body and tried to chip it over Robin Olsen. It was just to go on instinct and nice as hell to put it in.

With eleven rounds left, Mjällby is in first place with 46 points, seven points ahead of Hammarby who have one match less played and thirteen points ahead of reigning champions Malmö in fourth place.

We become very stagnant, comfortable and cautious, summarizes Malmö's coach Henrik Rydström and explains further:

It's obviously incredibly tough to go past Mjällby, one should be aware that they are in a phase where things are going in for them.
