Rogö won at a height of 5.45 meters, which is his new personal best.

At the end of the competition, it was only between Rogö and the Frenchman Zackaria Dia, but he only managed to jump over 5.40 - which meant French silver and Swedish gold.

I wanted to win, that's what I came here to do. I want to be the best, I want to take gold at major championships, that's what I train for, says Rogö.

Greetings from "Mondo"

The gold comes after the 18-year-old has been struggling with a back injury since last year, which meant he couldn't jump pole vault until May this year.

Before the competition, the 18-year-old received a greeting from Armand Duplantis.

He is a person I want to compete against in the future. He shows that there is no limit, and I don't see that I have any limit either. He wrote to me before the competition that I should “go kill it”, and I actually think I did. So I wanted to thank Mondo for the greeting, he is really an inspiration, says Rogö.

More Swedish medals

The other Swede in the competition, Oliver Sandberg, finished fifth. He jumped a personal best of 5.30 meters.

Just minutes after the gold, the next Swedish medal came.

Karl Ottfalk took bronze in the men's 3,000 meters with a time of 8:46.43 behind the Norwegian winner Håkon Moe Berg, 8:43.20, and silver medalist Kristers Kudlis, Latvia, who ran in 8:45.56.

"Extremely happy"

It's fantastic, really, can't dream of more, says Ottfalk to SVT.

I'm extremely happy.

It's Ottfalk's second medal during the championships, he also took silver in the 5,000 meters on Friday.

Sweden has now taken four medals at the European Championship U20 - Carmen Cernhjul also took a silver in the 1,500 meters earlier on Saturday.
