”Rodri is getting better but he got a big injury in the match against al-Hilal that has been lingering for the last five or six weeks”, says Guardiola in a statement.
Rodri was substituted on extra time with a groin injury when Manchester City met al-Hilal in the World Championship for club teams in June.
The midfielder has returned to training but will not be ready to start matches until in just over a month.
”Hopefully he can play some minutes in the matches before that but the important thing is not to be in pain”, says Guardiola.
Rodri missed large parts of last season with a cruciate ligament injury.
