The former football star bought a rental property on Östermalm in Stockholm two years ago. After Zlatan Ibrahimovic took over the house, he ended up in a rental dispute with a tenant – who had rented their accommodation through a mediation company – after the tenant was given notice last year.
The tenant did not move out, but instead sued the property owner and demanded to be allowed to stay with the same rights as a first-hand tenant.
The court has now ruled that the tenant is right. The couple Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Helena Seger must pay the tenant's legal costs of 367,000 kronor.
"We have appealed the verdict. Otherwise, we will not comment", writes Zlatan's lawyer Sara Björkeholm in a text message to TT.
During the trial, Helena Seger was present. She then told the court that she had met the tenant, who demanded to be allowed to stay or be bought out.
I thought it was illegal. Zlatan would never pay to get XX to move, in his world, he has no right to live in this apartment, said Seger.
I think I've done everything to help XX.
According to the district court's verdict, Ibrahimovic/Seger and the mediation company had attempted to circumvent the legislation regarding the tenant's protection against eviction and right to reasonable rent. Therefore, the tenant has the right to stay as a first-hand tenant.
