Wollter criticized ahead of TV program: "Jew-hater"

A storm is brewing around the artist Stina Wollter, who is to host a new program on SVT. Wollter has been criticized for spreading anti-Semitic conspiracy theories. Now she's going to make cozy TV, says DN's editorial writer Amanda Sokolnicki.

Stina Wollter has previously been accused of anti-Semitism since she in an Instagram post last autumn claimed that Israel "systematically took organs and skin from dead Palestinians". She also claimed that Israel "killed its own during the festival" during the terrorist attack on October 7, 2023.

Wollter later apologized for spreading information that was not true.

"Very coarse things"

In Friday's "Aktuellt", Amanda Sokolnicki expressed her criticism:

These are very coarse things and she had a hard time taking criticism. Now, so soon after, she's going to do cozy TV, said Sokolnicki.

Sokolnicki does not think Stina Wollter's apology was sharp enough, and that anti-Semitism in general is not taken seriously enough.

It's about a lovely and proud left-wing woman, and then these very coarse things are perceived as much less serious.

SVT's program manager Eva Beckman defended herself. She says that she takes a distance from Wollter's posts, but thinks that the artist has apologized for them.

The important thing for me is that this is a program where she participates as an artist. It has nothing to do with the state of the world, she says.

"Racism is downplayed"

Wollter's upcoming TV program has also sparked several political reactions:

"That SVT gives Stina Wollter a platform despite her anti-Semitic statements is beneath all criticism", writes SD's cultural policy spokesperson Alexander Christiansson on X.

KD's Member of Parliament Mikael Oscarsson writes in a post that SVT "rewards" Stina Wollter with the hosting job.

"Why should left-wing Jew-haters be taken back and their racism downplayed?", wonders The Liberals' Fredrik Malm.

"Naked with Stina Wollter" premieres on SVT on November 13. The artist will talk to celebrities about their relationship with their bodies – while painting them naked.
