A feature film about the singer Sinéad O’Connor's early years as an artist is in the works, writes Variety. O'Connor, who passed away in 2023, had a tumultuous upbringing in Dublin and started her first band at the age of fifteen.

The film takes its starting point in the star's early career, where she already at the age of 23 won an American Grammy and at the age of 25 tore up a picture of the Pope in "Saturday Night Live" – which caused big headlines and condemnations from the Catholic Church.

The film is directed by Josephine Decker, known for the film about Shirley Jackson, "Shirley" (2020), and the company that produces has previously, among other things, made "The King's Speech".

Who will play the singer is not yet decided.
