The future of the Polar Music Prize is uncertain, according to information in the newspaper Dagens ETC. TV4, which has covered a large part of the financing of the Polar Music Prize gala itself, is pulling out – something that Marie Ledin, the CEO of the Polar Music Prize, confirms to Dagens ETC.
That TV4 will not be broadcasting next year, that's clear, says Bosse Wahlberg, who has been the producer of the gala for 15 years, to the newspaper.
But TV4 claims that they can indeed consider broadcasting the gala next year.
”TV4 has a long and fine tradition of broadcasting the Polar Music Prize and we are open to a continuation”, says Jonathan Nordin, executive producer for TV4, according to the channel.
The prize amount of 2 million kronor is financed through the return on Stikkan Andersson's donation, but the operation and the gala are at the same time dependent on sponsors who have been difficult to find, according to ETC which writes that the ongoing expenses have been greater than the revenues. Marie Ledin does not want to say anything about the prize's future.
We will get back to what will happen with the Polar Music Prize, she says to ETC.
