The plan "does not reflect the fact that Gaza is currently uninhabitable" and that the population cannot live in a place "covered in debris and unexploded ammunition", claims Brian Hughes, spokesman for the White House Security Council.

President Trump stands firm on his vision of rebuilding a Gaza free from Hamas, says Hughes according to Haaretz.

The goal of the summit in Cairo was to come up with an alternative to Donald Trump's criticized plan to relocate the Gazans and transform the area into the "Middle East's Riviera".

The plan that the Arabs agreed on calls for, among other things, a transitional government in Gaza in order to preserve the prospects for a two-state solution. According to a draft, the goal is to hold elections in the Palestinian areas within a year.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has backed the Arab League's initiative.
