Hundreds of firefighters are battling for the second day in a row against a comprehensive forest fire about four miles southeast of Greece's capital Athens. So far, one person has died and due to strong winds, there is a concern that it will spread.

The fire broke out during the early afternoon on Friday and had a front of over seven kilometers in just a few hours. A firefighter tells AFP on Saturday morning that the fire has weakened, but is still active in some areas.

About 260 firefighters, 80 fire trucks and twelve fire extinguishing aircraft have been deployed in the area where the fire is burning, says a spokesperson for the fire department.

Dozens of people were evacuated on Friday, including from a nursing home.
