According to the newspaper, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany have worked out the proposal together with Ukraine after the American envoy Steve Witkoff's trip to Moscow this week.

The plan was presented to the US Vice President JD Vance on Saturday, during the meeting being held southeast of London, and is a response to the proposal that Russia has presented, where Russia wants to retain parts of the Ukrainian territory it currently has control over.

The European leaders want to draw a common red line that they say must apply in all future negotiations with Russia, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Kristersson stands behind

Sweden's Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) stands behind the European proposal.

"No true peace can come without respect for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity", he writes on X.

"Sweden strongly supports the efforts to put an end to Russia's invasion war. It is obvious that a just and lasting peace must be achieved with Ukraine at the negotiating table", Kristersson writes.

Few details have yet come from the meeting at the British Foreign Minister's summer residence Chevening House in Kent. But American sources tell CNN that the meeting meant "significant progress towards President Trump's goal of putting an end to the war in Ukraine".

Zelenskyj called around

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj has spoken with several European leaders on Saturday and, among other things, gathered support for a unified European peace plan. He has, among other things, spoken with Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Finland's President Alexander Stubb, and French President Emmanuel Macron.

The latter writes on social media that "Europeans must necessarily be part of the solution, as it affects their security".

British Foreign Minister David Lammy called, together with JD Vance, for Saturday's meeting where several national security advisers from Europe, Ukraine, and the USA participated to discuss ahead of the meeting between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday.
