Homophobic chants should not be heard at football stadiums in France, says Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau.

Therefore, he now wants Ligue 1 matches to be stopped if it happens again.

Retailleau also says that they have identified the individuals who allegedly started the chants during Paris SG's match against Strasbourg at Parc des Princes.

They should be punished severely, he says.

This has become unbearable. We can no longer tolerate these homophobic insults.

During the match in Paris, the supporters were urged – via the loudspeaker system – to stop singing the homophobic chants.

PSG was forced to close the "ultra stand" during a match last season due to a similar incident.

On Sunday, the club will play the away match against Marseille without fans in attendance, as there is a history of violence between the clubs' supporters.
