”There is no place in football and society for hate, discrimination or violence in any form”, writes Infantino on his Instagram.

Garcia judged a match between American FC Cincinnati and Mexican Monterrey in the American league cup for men, and approved a suspected offside goal in favor of Cincinnati.

A decision that made Monterrey supporters furious. Their team then lost the match 2–3.

”I am appalled and saddened by the threats against referee Katia Itzel after her performance. We condemn the actions of those who make these unacceptable threats, and offer our unconditional support in holding those responsible accountable”, continues Infantino.

Garcia has judged several men's matches before, including in the Mexican league and at the Olympic Games in Paris. She judged the Women's World Championship in Australia and New Zealand 2023.
