The USA's national team captain Gregg Berhalter gets fired after the fiasco in Copa América.
"The result is extremely disappointing and I take full responsibility for our performance," says Berhalter in a statement.
The host nation USA was eliminated in the group stage after two losses in three matches. It was a major disappointment for Berhalter, who returned to the USA's national team in June last year with the goal of "changing football in America forever".
Berhalter finished ten months ahead of schedule. He led the USA to a total of 44 wins, 17 losses, and 13 draws. In his second stint, it was seven wins, six losses, and one draw.
"Our immediate focus lies on finding a coach who can maximize our potential while we continue our preparations for the World Championship 2026, and we have already begun the search," says sports manager Matt Crocker in a statement.
