The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has ordered that all civilian air traffic between the USA and Haiti be stopped for 30 days. The decision comes a day after a passenger plane was shot at at Toussaint Louverture International Airport near Haiti's capital Port-au-Prince.
The plane, which came from Florida, was shot at as criminal gangs tried to take control of the airport. Large parts of Haiti are in practice lawless, with criminal groups ruling with violence.
The plane was diverted to the neighboring Dominican Republic on the island of Hispaniola in the West Indies.
One crew member sustained minor injuries.
