In one of the last measures taken by the American President Joe Biden before the transfer of power, the White House chooses to impose obstacles to Chinese technology exports. Biden refers to security reasons.

The announcement of the upcoming decision came after a year of preparations. In practice, it means that both hardware and software from China to the latest generation of vehicles are stopped in the USA.

Cars today are not just steel on wheels – they are computers, said Trade Minister Gina Raimondo about the decision, which also targets computer technology from Russia.

This is a targeted effort to ensure that technology from China and Russia is kept away from American roads.

The decision may be followed by further bans on drones with technology from the two countries.

The framework also includes certain restrictions on, among other things, American exports of computer components that can be used in AI products.

The national economic adviser in the White House, Lael Brainard, claims that technology from rival great powers can be used to disrupt or to gather sensitive information.
