The Swedish Transport Administration has not received any bids that meet the requirements and therefore chooses to cancel the procurement, reports P4 Västerbotten.
Instead, a new procurement is planned.
The goal of the new trains being put into service by 2030 remains.
The important message is that it is still 2030 that applies, but we are making a restart and will renew the procurement, says Rikard Granlund, who is the head of the Vehicle Resources unit at the agency, to TT.
The current cars are between 30 and 40 years old and have an estimated lifespan of around 2030. A total of ten new locomotives and 91 new sleeping and lying cars are needed, according to P4.
By 2030, the limit for the new cars begins. It is always possible to extend the lifespan if it were necessary, but it is not cost-effective, instead it is better to procure new ones, says Rikard Granlund.
