Two men in Lilla Edet are seriously injured after getting petrol on themselves – which was then ignited for unclear reasons. There are major gaps, says Morten Gunneng, duty officer at the police.

The men, both in their 30s, have been taken to hospital with severe burns. One of them was transported by ambulance helicopter, which Göteborgs-Posten was the first to report on.

One is seriously injured and the other is even more seriously injured, says Morten Gunneng to TT.

The incident occurred at around 23:30 in a garage belonging to a residence. The police have launched a preliminary investigation into reckless endangerment, alternatively gross reckless endangerment, but have no suspects yet.

It is still unclear what caused the petrol to ignite. The police have questioned several witnesses who were in the garage and escaped without injury.

We have not got a clear picture of the sequence of events. But we probably do not suspect any intentional crime, but rather that someone was negligent, says Gunneng.

The two injured men are sedated and have not been able to be questioned.
