Tulsi Gabbard has been appointed as the USA's next national intelligence chief.
Gabbard cleared a vote in the Senate on Wednesday, despite having previously faced criticism from both Republicans and Democrats.
During her hearing in the Senate Intelligence Committee, the former Democratic Representative from Hawaii distanced herself from several of her previous statements, regarding among other things the relationship with Russia, Syria's former dictator Bashar al-Assad, and whistleblower Edward Snowden, who has been accused of espionage.
