The top officials at the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) received a memo from Trump's administration on Friday: "Immediately stop all work related to climate change and stop using terminology related to climate change in DHS's programs and documents, as far as legally possible".
According to the news agency Bloomberg, which has read the document, the changes imply an "adjustment" to Trump's decree to revoke former President Joe Biden's climate-related measures.
DHS primarily handles citizenship issues, migration, and border issues, but is also the authority responsible for coordinating efforts in the event of major disasters, such as fires and floods.
According to the media, Trump is considering shutting down the entire FEMA, the federal agency under DHS responsible for disaster response. The President wants to transfer this responsibility to the states.
The agency has not commented on the document itself.
