The Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is running for election on a united USA, he announced in his first speech after the weekend's assassination attempt.
I'm running to become the president of entire America, said Trump, who believes it's God's will that he survived.
There is no victory in winning for half of America, said Trump in his speech and announced that he formally accepts the Republican nomination to appoint him as the party's presidential candidate.
The discord and division in our society must be healed. And we must heal it quickly, said Trump.
The former president described his personal near-death experience during the shooting at the election rally in Pennsylvania.
As you already know, the assassin's bullet came within a quarter of an inch of taking my life, said Trump and described how he heard a bullet whizzing by and how his ear was hit.
I immediately understood that it was serious, that we were being attacked.
He then praised, with a bandage over his ear, both the Secret Service guards and the spectators on site.
They knew I was in trouble, they didn't want to leave me.
God's Providence
During the speech, he called for a moment of silence for the man who was shot dead during the assassination attempt, at the same time as he walked up to the man's firefighter uniform and helmet, which had been set up on stage.
Trump said that he shouldn't really be standing on stage at the convention, but that he is doing so thanks to God's providence.
I felt safe, I had God by my side, said Trump about what he felt in the midst of the chaos at the election rally after the shooting.
The former president has previously said that the shooting has led him to make changes to his speech, from one that dominated by attacks on Biden to one that focuses more on uniting the country. But he talked about the Democrats as incompetent, except when it comes to electoral fraud. He talked about the 2020 election as the one that was "laughable".
We have a totally incompetent leadership, said Trump and continued that "Biden is the worst president the USA has ever had."
He has done incredible harm.
Many Promises
But four years of destruction will, according to Trump, quickly be turned into glorious times when he wins the election.
The promises poured in: Trump will put an end to Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine and the war between Hamas and Israel.
It would never have happened if I were president, said Trump about the wars and added that all he needed to do to stop the war was to pick up the phone.
He also promised to stop the "invasion" at the US border, to stop inflation in the USA, lower taxes, interest rates, and energy prices, and further arrange "peace, stability, and harmony all over the world".
The speech concluded the four-day Republican convention in Milwaukee, which has formally appointed him as a candidate for the presidential election in November.
