The police were on the scene five minutes after the alarm about the shooting at Campus Risbergska. In the end, around 130 police officers were there, says police area chief Lars Wirén at the press conference.
The police officers who arrived at the scene describe what could be described as an inferno. Dead people, injured people, screams and smoke development, says Wirén.
It is the police's opinion that the shooter stopped shooting at people in the school and instead directed his fire at the police officers.
There is extensive shooting with rifle-like weapons against the police patrols, says Wirén.
The police did not respond to the shooting, according to the police area chief.
It depends on the circumstances on the scene.
The police believe that the smoke development, which triggered a fire alarm, came from some form of pyrotechnics.
Large amount of ammunition
About ten minutes after the alarm, the first response team was on the scene and followed into the building. The perpetrator was found dead about an hour after the alarm.
About ten shell casings were found. A large amount of unused ammunition was found next to the deceased perpetrator. The heavy smoke development made it difficult to enter the premises, says Wirén.
Why it took a whole hour before the perpetrator was found, he says:
The school is 17,000 square meters. It's chaotic on the scene, which naturally takes time.
The police believe they know who the perpetrator is, but will not confirm it until they have secured his identity with DNA matching. Investigative leader Anna Bergqvist urges patience.
He is not known to us previously. He has a weapons license for four weapons. Three of them were found with him, says she.
Connection to the school
Bergqvist says that the perpetrator likely acted alone.
Where we stand right now, it looks like that. What we can say is that there is information that he had some connection to the school. It's something we need to look into deeper.
Kristoffer Zickbauer, also an investigative leader, adds:
We've come a bit of the way, the picture is starting to clear. But we're not ready to give any detailed answers, says he.
We've carried out some investigative measures, such as a search warrant, which has yielded some seizures, including a mobile phone. Film and audio clips have come in.
Two people are still being treated in the intensive care unit for their injuries, reports Region Örebro. Six people, including five with gunshot wounds, were taken to the hospital after the incident. The condition of all is described as stable.
